MAGPI Announces 2011 Fellows Program

Through the generosity of the Thickman Family Charitable Foundation, MAGPI is again able to offer THE MAGPI FELLOWS PROGRAM for 2011. Each year, the MAGPI FELLOWS PROGRAM provides a series of experiences to foster the construction of learning communities, project development, awareness and understanding of advanced network applications among K12, higher education and museum/library/informal education educators and support their active participation in the regional, national and international advanced networking communities.

Building on two years of experience in faculty development funded by the Thickman Family Foundation, MAGPI is offering a third year of its Fellows Project to foster collaboration among educators, and to develop instructional uses of Internet2 in the K20 community. The third year plan has been revised based on feedback from previous fellows and on an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the first two years of the project.

Regional, national and international advanced networking infrastructure has a tremendous amount of potential for education.  Creative individuals are needed to design educational programs, content and applications that use the infrastructure. K-12, Higher Education and Public/Cultural Institution educators are in a unique position to develop exciting learning experiences for students. This program aims to support educators in developing content, projects and programs that meet the needs of their educational setting.

The Fellows Program is open to faculty teams (that may also include learning and technical support staff) from MAGPI member institutions in the K20 community with a specific project designed to use Internet2 in teaching and learning. Preference will be given to projects that involve interdisciplinary teams, international collaborations, inter-institutional collaborations, and collaborations between higher education and the K12 community.

Teams will apply with a specific project in mind that utilizes advanced networking capabilities. Funding exists to support up to four teams. The Fellows projects will run between January - December 2011.
